Trip sharing from our website

Modified on Tue, Sep 10 at 6:46 AM

Share your trip details with others with a secure private invitation, public link or Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Your trip details are private and only visible to you unless you choose to share them. If you are a TripIt Pro member and interested in automatic trip sharing, please see our Inner Circle help page.

A. Private invitation

Only you and people you invite will have access to your travel plans. Travelers and planners can view and edit trip details. Viewers can view your trip details (less the total cost, frequent flyer number, confirmation number fields and attached documents) but cannot make trip edits.

We've redesigned our web experience. You may still have the option to access your account from our legacy site so we've included instructions for both.

From our new web experience:

  1. Select the trip you’d like to share.
  2. Click 'Manage Sharing' > Click 'Invite'.
  3. Enter the email address of the person you want to share your trip with and select their permission (view, edit, or edit & traveling).
  4. You can add multiple email addresses at the same time by separating with a comma.
  5. Click 'Send'.

From our legacy site:

  1. On the itinerary page of your trip, click 'Add' next to one of the trip invitee options: Traveler, Viewer, or Planner.
  2. Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share your trip with. You can add multiple email addresses at the same time by separating with a comma.
  3. Click 'Send'.

Change a trip invitee's permissions or remove them from a trip.

From our new web experience:

  1. Select the trip.
  2. Click 'Manage Sharing'.
  3. Under the invitee's name, update their designation or you can remove them altogether.

From our legacy site:

  1. Select the trip.
  2. Find the invitee's name in the header of your trip and click the arrow to expand their entry.
  3. Toggle between the available options and they will be instantly moved to your new selection or you can click 'Remove'.

Please note, if you try to add someone to your trip and see the message below, it means your accounts are not compatible for trip sharing. We hope to be able to offer trip sharing between all accounts in the near future.

B. Public URL

You can generate a special link/URL that will let anyone with access to the link view your trip. Because trips can contain things like travel dates, hotel names, and flight numbers, use public URL sharing cautiously.  (This option is currently unavailable via our mobile devices.)

From our new web experience:

  1. Select the trip.
  2. Click 'Manage Sharing'.
  3. Copy the URL.

From our legacy site:

  1. On the itinerary page of your trip, click the link icon.

How to disable public sharing:

  1. Click the Profile icon (upper right of any page).
  2. Select Settings > Sharing.
  3. Disable the 'Public Sharing' toggle.

Please note, this setting is only available in our new web experience. You can switch to the new web experience by clicking the ‘New website’ toggle in the upper right-hand corner of any page.

C. Share on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

From the new web experience:

  1. Select the trip.
  2. Click 'Manage Sharing' > 'Share Trip' (top right).
  3. The option to share through Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter is located on the bottom right.

From our legacy site:

1. On the itinerary page of your trip, click the Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn icon.
